and Stormont Shield for the second time defeating Ellerslie in
all three finals.

the Champion of Champions match - only the second time that

Their end of season win against Cronulla 27 - 21 is regarded as
one of the greatest games ever seen on Carlaw Park.
Early in the season, the club had lost its clubrooms in Clarence
Street when the land was required for a new intermediate school.
1975
The club secured a lease on a building in Blake Street to use as
clubrooms.
1977
The ARL introduced a new two division scheme and Ponsonby were
relegated for the first time in their history.
1978
The club won promotion back to Division One but the decision had
already been made to amalgamate with Maritime for the 12979 season.
Evelyn
Conrad "Effie" McEwen died just before his 95th birthday.
Effie had supported the club from its inception and was still there
at the end of the 1978 season. He only missed one senior game
from 1912 and held numerous administrative positions over many
years. He kept meticulous records including the details of
every senior player and every senior game from 1908. He had
attended committee meetings right up until his death.
1979
Ponsonby-Maritime lost every match in Division One wand were
relegated.
