Welcome to the 2011 Rugby League Season

Hopefully the following information will answer some of the questions you may have.

What do I need to have?

As part of your membership fee, Ponsonby currently loan players a playing jersey, shorts and socks, and a mouth guard to keep. Please take care of these uniforms as any losses will need to be paid for.

Boots:  Rugby boots are compulsory although sneakers will suffice for the first few weeks. Boots certainly make it easier on muddy days. Metal or plastic studs are allowed and they can be removable but for the sake of simplicity (and cost) moulded boots are fine.

Ball: Ponsonby does provide coaches with balls for players to use at training. It is highly recommended that your child have use of a ball outside training to further your child’s development.
Size 3 for U6-U8, size 4 for U9-U12, size 5 for U13-U16.

Fees:  This year fees are $30 for all junior players.  At Ponsonby we have a no pay no play policy.

Used Boots: If you have used boots that your child may have outgrown and would like to donate them to the club, please drop them in to us for the use of others.

Uniform Return: Quite a few people have not returned their jerseys, socks and shorts from the 2008 season. Please return these as soon as possible to ensure everyone has a jersey to play in this year.

What grade am I?: The year starts from 1st January.
For example, U8 grade players will turn 8 sometime during the 2010 year. If you turned 8 before January 1st you would be playing in the U9 grade for the 2010 year. Please contact Christina if you require further clarification.

Training: Training will commence at the beginning of March, giving us enough time to ensure that the players are ready for the first round of play. Coaches for some grades are yet to be appointed, however every player that registers will receive a call within the next few weeks to inform them of their coach, training time and place.

All current coaches are qualified by the ARL to coach their grade.

Muster:

These are going to be held at our clubrooms at Victoria Park.

We may have other grades available, but we can only cater to demand and the availability of coaches.

During the season there will be a number of tasks for which we will need help. Please contact the committee if you can help in any area-no matter how small it will be appreciated.

We encourage parents to stay and help the coaches – even if it means just being there to encourage your child.
